I was highly considering purchasing either Xbox, PS2 or Gamecube.
I looked into the latter first, and it was probably my least favourable proposition as it was not DVD compatible and the games are a bit kiddish.
Xbox, I didnlt really like the chunky controller, the only good games I could think of were Halo (great game) and project Gotham Racing (still prefer GT3).
The only thing stopping me from a PS2 was it's $499 pricetag. Friday night I decided to go and look at some of the games available and I notcied it had dropped $100. If I am ever going to get a game console now it will be only a PS2.
Some fo the games I would get would be the following:
Grand Turismo 3
Grand Theft Auto 3
Max Payne
Resident Evil
Need For Speed 6: Hot pursuit 2
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)
V8 Supercars
Colin Mcrae Rally 3
Can anyone else reccomend any good games that are or will be relased for PS2?
Also, a bloke at work was telling me if you play DVD's on PS2 you can burn out some laser in it? Not sure but hasa nyone else heard of or even expereienced this before?

DBA slotted rotors/Bendix ultimate pads (front), Pioneer MP3 head unit and BA XR carpet mats.
I have been using my PS2 for 90% DVD watching, and have watched well over 100 titles on it so far.
I have found that the Laser has not degraded at all, and Playback Quality is very good. (No complaints).
I dont have the DVD controller, and have used the PS2 in the car often, and found that it doesnt skip, or have problems with Bumps etc.
Also, Ive been getting games from a place in Wollongong for $10ea (Used, or Factory Rejects).
These titles included
2001 F1 (Gave it to my sis, as I didnt like it, controls were too finicky)
GT3
Crazy Taxi
Parrapa the Rappa
Ridge Racer V
Ecco the Dolphin.
So yeah, I dont think I would ever get an XBox, simply because I hate Microsoft with a passion, and secondly, I could never get XBox games this cheap !
so it is a good DVD player Xyphoid???
because that's the main reason i wanted to buy one...... the only reason that has stopped me so far is that i had thought it was not a good DVD player

Have watched some DVD's on my sons PS2 (which is the only DVD player we have) and the picture quality was better than normal TV picture and the sound was great

Thanks guys. That's all good news. I was a bit worried about the DVD thing but I really think I will get a PS2 in a few weeks.
Always wanted a DVD player and I need something for my room, and with all the games on offer on PS2 theres bound to be a few more than what I had mentioned above that would like.

yeah.....the DVD player for PS2 is certainly great. I've also found it's got a high scratch tolerance.....that is, when I rent DVDs from the video store, they're normally scratched! However, when I play them on the PS2, I haven't had one single skip or freeze like my friend does on his DVD player.
Oh yeah.....as for PS2 games, along with titles already mentioned, The Fast and The Furious console game is currently under development!!! :s2: :s2::s2::s2::s2:
