Hey guys im looking at buyin an ed xr8 and was just curious what general promblems and such to look for.. ie what problems that series had... Thanks for everyones help

Quite a nice car as long as you get it checked mechanically before you pay for it!

Cooling I have heard has been the main issue with the ed

You'll probably find that most of the problems were nicely ironed out in the ED series. The 5L is a very strong motor and it should last ya an eternity if you take good care of it. Always make sure that you keep an eye on your temp. gauge tho. If it was me buying it, I'd probably replace all the radiator hoses, fanbelts and perhaps even the radiator with new ones. And just a word of advice, if you buy a V8 make sure you get a 5 speed !!! You'll defenately have heaps more fun driving it.

With 13 radiator hoses all up including heater hoses etc, you'll need a few $$$.
Add more if the radiator is dead.
Also, you won't buy a radaiator for a manual, they only sell ones with the auto cooler...
(Ford that is).

Pay particular attention to the cooling ports on the EGR block.
The pressed tin original fittings aren't much chop, and it's easy to drill and tap, then fit a couple of brass hosetails.

The other item to watch is the steel pipe that runs on the drivers side of the engine, under the intake plenum.
It allows water to flow from the engine up to the heater.

Mine blew out on the tiny tubing that connects to the intake, and a new one cost over $300.

Otherwise they are a very solid car, with a reasonable drivetrain.
Just don't get too anxious trying to wind her out otherwise you'll end up with a tailshaft for company.
They speed limited all V8's after the ED for a reason.............

I had cooling problems on mine and where the clutch cable went through the firewall, the metal was splitting (very common problem).
