XR6 Turbo for a week
Got one of those sitting in the driveway as I write this. Had it 24 hours, and to put it bluntly the car is extremely impressive. Dyno testing has shown an initial 184rwkw (on the same rollers my stock SS made 177rwkw), but the power gain at 3000rpm over the LS1 is more like 20kw, and 30Nm of torque.
Removing the airbox restriction gave 204rwkw and another big torque peak, while getting rid of the exhaust (todays exercise) should hopefully see us near 215 - 220rwkw. The impression on the road is of a monster cube engine, with huge acceleration on tap by keeping the tacho between 2000 and 4000rpm. Its a refreshing drive.
While the engine is the jewel of the package, the general dynamics and finish of the car are also up to standard. One driver, who owns a 300 GTS took it on his test track stretch of road and noted that with both cars in stock form the Coon would outpoint his HSV, and destroy an SS. Thats not bad coming from a guy that was hesitant to be seen in a Ford.
