My Hilux is an '89 model 2.4l diesel which came from Japan new as part of a special order of two.

It came optioned with a 4 speed auto which it has, but this is not available in early 'lux's. It's was a special deal done via a dealer in Victor Harbour at Warwick Wilson Toyota, who knew the boss of Toyota Oz personally so got the order put through especially.

It's a rare beast indeed and not for sale.

I found out the real reason the two utes has to be specially ordered in.

Because the old man wanted them in yellow which you couldn't get them in, here in Oz. They were to match in with all the yellow vehicles used in the quarry at Victor Harbour eg, the dump trucks, Caterpillar loaders and the rest of the plant. Everything was all painted bright frikkin' yellow.

But, auto utes in the 2.4D are real rare since the option was bloody expensive. I have been offered countless times by Toyota dealers and trade blokes to take it off my hands.
