Lookin through the books all I could find was a STRAIGHT SIX of 170cid. So Im going with 1964.
This is because the V8 out sold the six 2-1 in 1964-68. Proof enough?

The 1974 Mustang II Mach-1 was powered by a 2.8 litre German V6 engine. This engine was rated at 105 hp (79 kW) and was available with either a 4 speed manual or 3 speed automatic.
The 302 Windsor V8 returned for 1975 witha 2 barrel carburettor only and 122 hp (92 kW) @ 3600 rpm with automatic only.

Hang on...question was What year did the Mustang NOT have a V8? Does this mean any other engine or only V6? Surely the answer is '64?? Help me Iml lost...my brain hurts!
