ug ... filtering software :(

Well unfortunately due to the activities of the kids in the past few days, I've had to go to the extreme of getting filtering software and start going through their history to see what they've been looking at and blocking the inappropriate stuff.... does anyone know of good filtering software to use? (trying netnanny 5 and it seems to be OK, but still leaves many gaps!)

Excuse me if my posts have been a bit whimsical of late ... that would be summer session depression kicking in.

I've never used it myself, but I believe all filtering programs have weekly updates from the web. Its based on a list that is constantly being compiled of identified addresses. Just like anti-virus software.
Have you updated the program with the latest updates? Should close some of those gaps.
However, there will always be some gaps.

Chevs may go, but theres nothing like a HO!

There is a program at my TAFE called websense, it seems to filter out anything interesting that we are trying to look up! Very effective, I think it looks for words that are within the source of the page, and if you have selected them, blocks access to that page.

I love these do gooder programs.
I remember when one was launched a couple of years ago and it wiped out the Liberal Party, National Party & University of New England sites coz they mentioned "sex" and "sheep".
It was articles about sheep breeding and disease control that did it.
Only slightly embarrassing for the software authors...

Biggest gripe i have with Net Nanny 5 is it can't work in XP with Fast User Switching (which is a feature of XP that I really love!)
