What do you think of this? Enjoying WSID since it opened, but really missing this uk series. Rules are strict - cars must be street legal in every way, run treads, do a 25k run, put the pump fuel in to race with, do a hot start and get back to the track for racing.
Several of these cars are running low 8's @ over 170mph - tops is an 11.5 litre Calibra (detuned pro-stock motor). Check out the 572ci Aston Martin with a top fuel 14:71 blower, and those gorgeous Chevs - Ford's are a bit thin on the ground I'm sorry. And what kind of sicko has a drag racing Audi Quattro (I use the term loosely). Browse using the left-hand side menu:
Those cars are street legal in the UK.... you'd be arrested driving one of them out your driveway in Aus!
Great times though, wish we could do something like that here.
Yea, well I guess street legal should be in inverted commas with (left-hand drive!) Astons with blowers above roof height. And these aren't quiet motors...! But they have all their tax + mot (like rego etc here) so someone's prepared to put their name to it..!
Those times are from a few years back too - last I heard was 8.2s, so they're probably knocking on the door of 7's now..!

I think in Victoria they would simply shoot you on the spot and run your credit card through the Bracks "I cant run an economy without stealth tax" machine! Then sell your car to someone else so they could do it all again!
In the UK, you can register pretty much anything as a kit-car.
Nope, not kit cars. They're still the original cars, Vauxhall Calibra, etc. It's not like here with regards to rego, just treated as a Calibra (eg) and then the usual roadworthiness stuff. Im sure there should be visibility laws tho - you're not allowed furry dice, but a left hooker with a fuel lung is ok..!
But you are right, you can make any old kit car and call it eg Ford Escort 'Special' as long as it shares about 2% of the original parts :oP

Yep, personally know a guy from Sheffield who had a 2.7 twin turbo V6 Vauxhall Vectra that made 1203hp registed as a Vauxhall Vectra GTR kit-car, and well, yeah, shared the doors and roof in common with the original car hehe.

YE GODS!! 1203bhp through the front wheels..... :oP Next there'll be a 355ci Fiat 126!! (there's 2 actually!)
Ah, I should've mentioned. It wasn't FWD anymore, it was AWD. Like I said.. it was about 1% Vectra.. 99% custom. 1203bhp through the front wheels would just be crazy in a car that actually saw the street quite a bit!

Yea I was only joking about the FWD bit - AWD a nice touch. Got any pics of it? Sounds straight outta hell..... Would have been fun on Sheffield's infamous Snake Pass...... NOT! :oS
