Well its urgent for me :)
I am getting the 4sp auto to T5 conversion done in a couple of days and I just found out what the shifter looks like.
I am not a big fan of the shroud/surround.
Has anyone done a mod for this?
Is there a cloth type that can replace it?
I am VERY anxious to put this issue to bed.
Hope you guys can help me!
If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, look out for an EB GT leather gear boot (shifter surround)... much nicer than the stock jelly pyramid
Pop in and see the spare parts people at your local ford dealer for the EB GT boot. For $18-20 (when I got it anyway) it's a cheap way to replace the jelly thing, plus it fits straight on unlike the stuff you can get from supercheap etc.

It doesn't really tie on, it's able to just sit there. If I had a dig camera i'd get a pic for you, but sorry I don't. I'll see what I can rustle up for you though!

what i dont get is how is the bottom kept down? Ive seent he ones in supercheap and alike, you can either connect the top to the knob or tie it. But what about the bottom?

To fit the EB gear boot, you take the shifter knob off, invert the boot so that its like an upside down cone- a \_/ sort of shape, then slide it down just past the thread on the shifter. Use a cable tie (or whatever) to secure it in place, invert it again, replace shifter knob, viola! :D
Spoke to Ferntree Gully Ford and they said No go.
Were obsolete a while back. Also, said when they WERE available they were close to 200.
WTF?!
Anyway I will pop down to autobarn in the next few days and have a look.
Has anyone fitted one of these aftermarket boots before?
Just a simple clip I would hope.
Is the gear stick on a T5 very high? Hard to tell from the photo's I have seen.
Has anyone modded the height?
The last thing I want in my car is some massive looking 1982 truck like gear shifter :)
Thanks for the replies guys. I guess its a silly thing to be worried about, but I dont want to downgrade the appearance of my car.
Any photo's of people that have non-rubber-jelly-pyramid boots would be great!
