In the US, Ford produces a 3.9 litre quad cam V8 for use in the Lincoln LS and Thunderbird.

What would peoples reaction be to use a similar engine to replace the I6 rather than a V6 in the 2005 Falcon as long as performance and economy were improved?

Nup. Not everyone wants a V8 even if it is more economical than the I6. Especially when insurers squeeze your balls when they see "V8" on your policy...

However, if there is an I6 or V6 option then yeah, why not.

Not to mention the fleet market that Ford burnt badly by dropping the discounts with the introduction of the AU.

nope...i hope the six stays

cant think of anymore reasons than above right now...apart from i dont mind the I6, nice engine to drive.

I have an XR8 as well as an EA with I6 and I still enjoy driving the 6.

The Crown Victoria is a V8-only proposition in the United States, but it is not a best-seller by any means.

As a buyer, though, I'd love to have an 'economical' V8 - just for the sound of it.
