Vandals

I was just reading about the GT-P wheels being stolen and I thought I'd ask about something that's been on my mind lately. I'll be taking delivery of my GT fairly soon and I'm really worried about some scumbag keying it or damaging it even worse.

Have you guys had anything happen to your cars?

Where should I keep away from? (Melb)

What's a good preventative measure (eg. type of alarm)?

I've been pretty lucky with my cars so far, but then again, the Probe hasn't exactly been a real popular car and my cars before that have been pretty non-descript.

Re: Vandals

go with BRANT for the alarm.
get lock nuts for the wheels.
get insurance.

if they want your car and they are a pro they will take it no matter what you do.
You can only stop amatures/joy riders

I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out

Re: Vandals

Apart from having some sort of system that imparts an electric shock when someone touches your car, there is no real way to stop someone keying it. you would hope that people have some respect for expensive/nice cars - only problem is it only takes someone who is jealous (or whatever other reason they have) to do it!

Out of necessity I have parked the Xr8 ute down town twice. Both times as far away as possible from everyone. Yet both times I have been doored.

I had it parked at work(in view) and saw some clown about to use it as a seat.

A mate had brake fluid thrown on his ute completely stuffed the paint it hit.

A chick I know had her new lancer keyed all the way around last week.

Get a huge rottie and tie it to the car with enough rope to make it all the way around the car.
Short of doing that all you can do is pay your insurance on time and wait for it to happen to you ride.

Its amazing isn't it ? I always park in "special" spots that are as isolated from the other idiots as possible. But still, it never stops surprising ( or annoying ) me, when you park in a car park, and are the *only* car in there, to come back and find a car parked right beside you. What about the rest of the frickin car park !?!?
Just last night I parked in a large spot, and shuffled as close to a wall as I could get, yet a camry still parked on top of me ( on my side of the line too ). grrrrrrr.

But otherwise, as said, get lock-nuts, and pick your spots as best you can. Avoid steep car parks (escaping doors & trolleys ). Aim for places with video (not that they'll usually check it for you even if something does happen - (thanks Cityrail)).
Oh yeah, while amusing, avoid the offensive stickers (hsv I just beat one etc) - only asking for trouble. But who'd pollute a gt with stickers ( well I guess sparkle would say more stickers :) )

Re: Vandals

yeah i got to say no matter where and when you park your car its always at risk for criminals to steal it or damage it,if they are pro's they will no matter what steal your pride n joy,i like parking my car where ppl frequently go past it i never park underground unless i have to and never in anyside streets, way to easy to steal em in them spots.

cars are a lethal weapon, your not invinsible when you get into one,and no matter how much skill you think you have, you are never in control you are always on the edge of death it may not happen today but if you keep driving like you do,you too will end up dead!

At my old house, I had my Falcon for about 3 months... And some pole smoker threw some Ford of acid over the front of the car which stripped half the paint off back to metal. I spewed !

Re: Vandals

I had my XR6 all of 3 days before it was keyed.

And people wonder why it sits in my garage for a week sometimes without getting driven. Cause every time I take it out I expect it to be hit, bumped, doored, keyed, spat on or generally damaged. Seems to be the usual shite now.
