I read somewhere in the November edition of CAR magazine that the Vauxhall Omega, the car on which the Commodore is based will be discontinued in a few years time. I would quote what I read in the mag but do you think I can find it??...its not exactly a thin (quick-flick) mag, so I'll have to look for it again

Does this mean that Holden will have to style the Commodore in future for themselves and not just copy "dad's" design??

Rumour has it that the US Falcon, the basis of the Aussie Falcon, might get canned as well.

Oh wait, you mean it got canned in the 60's?

The omega is canned effectively..

There is the new FWD vectra, in which there may be a model that wears the Omega name..

Holden is viaing for the Omega market with the commodore. Not a huge market at 5,000 a year in the UK, but sweet market, lots of mark up, lots of prestiuge for holden..

Holden has already replaced the omega in Brazil..

The current plan is for the Omega to be replaced by a RWD sedan (based on GM's Sigma platform) in a few years. The current Omega will go away in 2002.

My understanding is that the Omega will be replaced by a stretched, possibly widened version of the Vectra, using the FWD Epsilon platform. The Vectrum concept car with the XV8 concept engine may give a hint to the styling (although the car will surely not get that engine).
