Very close call

Yesterday i was on Salisbury highway in my AU and half way down in a side street one car entered the road way in front of me and then another car, a blue Japanese car of some description pulled up at the side street, sat there for some time and when i was approximately 2 metres away he cautiously headed for the traffic island . I was doing 60 and if i had kept going i would have been imbedded into his back seat.

I applied the brakes, then turned left quickly then felt the car get unstable, got off the brakes, just missed the car and the fast upcoming concrete footpath, turned right, got a bit sideways and caught it.
Goodness know why the guy didn't see me
He entered the highway at what would seem 5km and hour and when i braked i would of been within 1 metre of him and managed to escape damage.

There wasn't enough time to pump the brakes which i try to do in these situations but managed to judge how much brake to use without getting the car too unsettled.
As soon as i got off the brakes i planted it as the footpath was approaching pretty quick. That was when the big blue beast got a little squirrelly. Some opposite lock carefully applied got the car back under control
How much i missed the car by would be measured in mm's i reckon. IT WAS A CLOSE ONE

5 minutes later as i was driving at the back of holden's where the speed limit is 80km somebody in a VK Commodore was side on in the middle of the road about 7 metres ahead of me thereby blocking 3 cars
Maybe he took the quick left and right bends too fast and was going to go into the kerb and hit the brakes or applied the handbrake but too strongly and the car spun around
It had been raining pretty hard for a few hours that morning but was clear at the time of the accident

Well the brakes didn't lock up and there was no squeal so i guess YEAH. Probably got off the brakes at the right time too.

I would of been majorly pissed off if i had hit the guy as my car will be in the upcoming holden and ford show and don't want to wreck my car before the 19th

Yeah, and what's worse is when the idiots gives you the finger!

The driveway coming into my work is shared with some apartment buildings and is like an S-bend going downhill. Anyway, the other day a black Celica was coming up and cut one of the bends as I was coming down and honked at me for almost sideswiping him!

Damn I wish I had a Hummer...

Just in case you weren't aware - generally speaking, you should never pump the brakes of ABS-equipped vehicles.

I'm glad you got out of that one either way.

Very lucky mate, sounds like some very good defencive driving skills you applied there.

Lucky you and your car are ok.

Fortunately no locking of brakes to cause skid marks but it would of been close without ABS.
Took me foot off the brakes just at the right time. PHEW
The Yokohama AVS tyres did their job nicely

If i was driving one of the AU's from work i don't think the outcome would of been the same
The standard AU forte suspension seems a bit to soft

All the cars at work run on cheap retreads

Thanks alot mate. Some serious carnage avoided thankfully
The first scare with my AU since buying it in 98.
I'm sure another idiot will try and wipe me out sometime in the future.

Several years back a bus ran a red light at a busy intersection and i had the green light so continued straight and suddenly found myself in the middle of the intersection with a bus coming from the right side. Some quick 80km an hour swerving got me out of trouble
