Today the State Opposition Leader Robert Doyle, demanded the speed cameras be switched off. He has quoted that there was a 20% jump in fines for June. He stated that the cameras have nothing to do with safety and all about keeping the Bracks Budget in the black.


Vic drivers are now coughing up to the cameras to the tune of $290,000 a day!

This is just a set up for the next election. Very smart move on the Libs behalf. This way Bracks can't just say it's an election ploy when the Libs hammer him on the speed camera issue in a few years when the election rolls around. Start the pressure now and Bracks has nowhere to hide com election day. God knows theres enough ammunition to bury Bracks on the issue.

Onya Doyle, good to see smart thinking still occurs in government.
The best bit is if Doyle wins the election on the speed camera issue (and we all better hope he does) the Libs will have to turn them off. Just think of the flow on effects for all the other states too.
Could be the beginning of the end for the revenue raisers. Here's hoping cause if Bracks wins again we will be stuck with them forever.

I highly doubt that speed cameras would be shut down competely, though if HALF of the amount of speed cameras that were operating were removed, I think everyone would still be that much happier.
