Victorian Government revenue raising - Have they gone to far?
OK, I have just returned from another "enlighting" trip to Victoria. Enlighting? Well, they lightened my wallet to the tune of $200.
Yes, another speeding ticket, but this time there is a twist.
Anyone who has driven around Melbourne, knows they have big signs, that as you drive through tem, they indicate your speed. They also tell you that they only show speed up until 117km/h.
So, I am driving down the hwy, just out of Ballerat, when I go under one of these signs. I stick the Falc' right on 120ks. I go under this sign, and it tells me that I am doing 109km/h.
Well, I think, these new mag wheels that I have just put on the ol' girl, must of put the speedo out 11ks.
So, thinking this, I drive down the highway doing exactly 120.
Just then, a GTS flys past me. I laugh. hahaha, you'll get a ticket like that.
Predictablly, a cop car is sitting on the hwy, and pulls out. I think he is going after the Commodore. Well, I was wrong there. He pulls me up.
Whats wrong officer. I was not speeding. Yes you were sonny, you were doing 121km/h. I am going to have to issue you with a speeding ticket. Issue me with a ticket? How about that GTS that just flew past me. He tells me that the Commodore will be dealt with. How, I don't know.
How can you issue me with a ticket, I cannot of been speeding. I just passed through a speed indicator, and it said I was not speeding.
Well, it must of been wrong, he says. You shouldn't trust those, as they are not very accurate.
He then tells me that Councils are responsible for them, not the Police.
BULLSHIT!! The man is responsible for it, and you work for the MAN.
After much arguement, I still get a fine. And you better believe that I am going to fight it. Which means another trip into speed camera Victoria.
So, basically, what is happening is this. Somewhere in the Government, they have had this agreement, to put these false speed reading signs up, and station a copper with a rader gun just down the road from it, and watch the $$$$ roll in.
(Then, 10ks down the road, another copper had pulled up the GTS. They never miss a chance to make a dollar these Vic coppers!!!)
Re: Victorian Government revenue raising - Have they gone to far?
Shame you got the ticket, but I'm afraid that the readings given by those "speed indicators" are not worth the paper they're written on. I can't say for sure about the one on the Western Hwy as I don't go that way but on the Hume Hwy one (which was turned off completely for months) they have added a sign saying "advisory only" presumably to cover their backsides.
I've been under that one and had it dead on the speedo reading yet another time it was 21km/h under. I can only assume that environmental factors (temp, wind, etc) affect them.
Re: Victorian Government revenue raising - Have they gone to far?
The one just out of Melb going up the Hume is designed to screw you. Cruise control set on 110kph, the reading I got was for 91kph... yeah, right!!! I wouldnt trust them at all, they are there to speed you up ready for the wallet pluck to come.

I saw Transport Minister John Anderson was attacking speed cameras again good on him. I just wish he could/would do more to stop the states then just talk about it tho. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/National/story_53113.asp

The Bracks Labour Government has gone on the nose and unfortunately the people are starting to turn against the Vic Police its not their fault there only carrying out the Vic Govt.policy i know quite a few Vic Police that are fed up with the Vic.Govt antics.
