I wonder how many people are going to lose their licences by building up more than 12 demerit points before they even get the first infringement notice in the mail? You could do it one trip from Melbourne to Geelong. A steady speed of 120k past 7 cameras would give you 21 points.
For anyone that it happens to, there is a defence that it was just one offence i.e. the speed was exceeded continuously (the cameras might prove it!). If you drive for X distance at 15k above the speed limit it is only one offence. You can't be done for separate offences of exceeding it at arbitrary points on the journey. No doubt this is going to be tested in the not too distant future as it applies to speed cameras.

You can only get booked once each day along the princes FWY to geelong. Some police commisioner was on TV the other night saying this. You may have your picture taken many times, but you will only be booked for the fastest speed of the day.

This is BS in the extreme. Speed cameras are one thing, but time elapse cameras? Gimme a break!
Watch the revenue go through the roof now!
And still they beleive that this wil make people better drivers...
or at least they make us think that, that is what they think, when really they just want the money and couldnt give a rats about anyone.
If they were trained properly in the first place, no way near as many people would crash due to 'excessive' speed.

When you're driving along now.. are you going to be concentrating on what's around you or shyting yourself about your current speed? For my money accidents will go through the roof because people will be panicking about speeding too much..

I heard the chief traffic cop on radio within the last year or two saying they don't put speed cameras on freeways. That didn't last long, did it?
Why don't we just accept the fact that they want us to tool around in Ladas governed to 50km/h, until they decide that's too fast as well?

Thats a good point and I reckon you're right...we'll just have to wait and see.
