Voting - How to?

Ok, I noticed the other two threads closed because of the content, but I was just wondering how do I vote and what do I need to do? I only just turned 18 and all this voting stuff has come up and I have no idea what to do.

Can someone plz explain what has to be done to register etc? I dont wanna be responsible for any politcal arguments so dont start anything...

Re: Voting - How to?

Umm, for Queensland, all I had to do was go to the Post Office and get an Electoral Role application form, fill it out, then you're done. Well thats all i had to do.

Look in the phonebook for the loal Australian Electoral Commission office and give them a ring. It's been so long since I have done it I have forgotten *sigh*
I suspect the post office is the best idea.. but unless you happen to be right near one, a simple phone call will go a long way.

You can get the form at the post office, however what i think the question was is what do you do on polling day?

Re: Voting - How to?

I wish you could vote online completely. I really can not be stuffed. I do care to a degree but not enough to go out of my way. I vote liberal, there can I go now? lol

If I can do my tax return online then surely they could organise a voting system using the exsisting system.

Re: Voting - How to?

I'm pretty sure that if your name isn't on the electrol roll by the time the election comes up, you can go to the polling booth and tell them that you've just turned 18, and that you have enrolled to vote. Just take some I.D. with you and they'll just add your name onto the list.
Wow I can't believe I can remember that far back.
