VW are kidding themselves aren't they

what a wank. VW new beetle has a electronic spoiler that comes up when the speed gets above 150 kmh.
also it has 20 valve engine, that means 5 valves per cylinder (i think its a 4 cylinder) why do they need 5 valves per cylinder for such a small amount of power, another stupid element.
Could someone explain to me why these items are neccesary

Porsche 911's have had a similar speed sensitive spoiler for years ....

More valves means more physical area can be used to vent or deliver gases on each of the intake/exhaust strokes.

the new beetle is a car that eludes common sense in my mind. you can buy a car that looks better, cost less and has essentially the same running gear - golf IV

i don't take that car seriously, and anything they do with it is just for showoff...

ELECTRONIC rear spoiler on a FWD car. Wait till the riceboys hear about this! And what's next? Rear anti-tramp rods in the VW?

Anyway, doesn't that contradict the point of a spoiler? On a fwd car, to stabilise it, you just need to plant your foot. As long as the front wheels are planted, the rear end will follow. Rear spoilers on a RWD car are mainly needed for take-offs and cornering, and high speed stability. Wouldn't it be better if on a RWD car at least, the spoiler was raised at lower speeds and then lowered at higher speeds? At the higher speed, you only need it to catch the wind, not push the air up as well IMO.

M8, on four cylinder cars, they NEED as many valves as they can fit, just to make that power!

VW actually had the electronic rear spolier before Porsche did when they used it on the Corrado sports coupe in the late 80's early 90's. Also the Bettle turbo needs the wing due to the design of the car making it a little unstable at highspeed. But I agree the Bettle is a nothing car and I now work for a VW dealer.

LOL!! That's gotta be it!!

Why would you want to take a bug above 150 anyway? Then again, why would you want to drive a bug?
