Read VY "SS" Commodore

Some information that I have received that you may be interested in:

VY Commdore will include a new model "SS" which will be called a SV8. This new model will replace the existing "SS" as we know it now.

"SS" will now be built as a level 2 car. Which means it will be based on the Berlina. i.e Climate control A/c etc.... Price is expected to be around $ 57k...

Hot House Green will also be available as a colour option on the "SS"....

More news to come......

interesting

the sv ties into some HSV names aligns with XR8, R8 and similar models but the ss is a traditional GM name and Im sure the loss will be felt

I wonder how the pricing compares with the BA XR8, according to Drive the forte =model is priced now around 2k more than the Holden Exec, and the Barra is expected to add another 1k on top of that ?

Drive seem to be a little critical on pricing but probably because as the conspiricy theroy goes everyone is against ford

hrrrmmm.. will put the SV8/SS in the same pricing league as the new XR8 ..

I guess the extra dosh will be spent on the same crap that differentiates the exec and berlina now...

That price increase is unacceptable. It means that there will be an opening in the range for a $45-50k Commodore fitted with V8, traction control, 17" wheels, etc, but without the upmarket gizmos. Maybe they can call it the Commodore SS...

The SS should just be a spec'd up executive not a speedy luxo barge, they may loose customers, all the better....

It would be silly if Holden killed off the Commodorre SS name but thats the way things go I spose. The SS name has been around for ages and instant association with the Commodorre ever since.

Though CV8 sounds rather mundane but. I think they called the EB sports Falcons onwards XR6/Xr8 due to the old sports Falcon XR's of the 60s thus it will be silly to kill off such a name with all the street cred 'SS' that goes with it.

Did i just read that right? there will now be 3 types of "S" commodores.

S
SV8
SS

So nothing is killed off, just the SS get more gizmos and the price increase accordingly. If i got that right it sounds like Holden are going to put the SV8 against the XR6, and SS against the XR8 prices wise. But will they differentiate them power wise as well?

Sorry just to clarify, I was being ironical with my comments about a VY SS slotting beneath the SV8. Holden would be neglecting a key segment an an effort to move the car upmarket. $60k is basically HSV and WH Caprice territory!

The introduction of a newly named model is merely to defend the power outputs when compared to the upcoming AV falcon. In the latest edition of MOTOR they are already comparing the XR6 to the SS and the XR8 goes straight up to the clubby. The ford comes out on top in both categories and with the VY commodore looking somewhat like a VRX Magna it was only time before Holden did something. Either way, it's their turn to feel a little hurt.
