What have you guys been smokeing? The I6 is a new engine, and all Ford have to do is turn the wick up a little bit. The power is there for the taking.
We don't need a V6, and we DON'T want a V6!!!
I would'nt go as far as saying the BA donk is new. Heavily revised is more apt. Sure, the power is there (and plenty of room for future increases) but fuel consumption is a major worry.
But yeah, the I6 in it's latest guise is not too shabby.
GM have known that the Buick Ecocrud is past it's use by date for a while. It is just a matter of time, money and resources to design, build and implement it's replacement, just like Ford have done with thie I6 now.
Reading between the lines, Ford would not have thrown so much $$ and engineering R&D into a motor that was only going to have a lifespan of 3-4 years. It's their staple engine, and will more than likely be in the model lineup for at least 8 years.

Yes I have to agree. Ford would not have spent the bucks on overhauling the engine and grafting on a hairdryer if it were only for a coupla years...
But I am very surprised (dissapointed?) that fuel economy has not improved. Something that the Falcon consistantly cops flak for time and time again. I think that fact alone might cost BA COTY. All other cars are imnproving efficiency, yet Falcon doesnt.
U have to remember, that the other cars don't have the weight and the power output to even get close to the barra. The motor is probably the best 6 to come out in Australia, and i think its time to give credit to ford in not increasing the fuel economy even thought the power and weight is there. Ford have done a remarkable job, and its time to start looking at the whole package not focusing on little things. If u take the whole package into the equation, then u see ford is in front.

I believe that the new I6 is actually more fuel efficient but because of the extra weight of the BA it has the same official economy. Once the BA starts loosing some weight you will see an improvement in the fuel economy.

Originally posted by snavy i think holden is getting a major strip down of that engine, becuse of cost.
Holden will be manufacturing the engine themselves. The turbo variations are supposed tp be for SAAB but I am not sure if Holden will put a turbo version in the next Commodore.

This is a very good point. Back in '94, the EF had everything it needed to win COTY - except fuel consumption and handling were let-downs. Now we have BA which is a major update that has done nothing to address a traditional Falcon weakness. With so much competition from the imports these days, it would be sad to see Falcon not win due to poor "utilisation of resources".

All I hope is that Ford remain on the ball. Don't write Holden off, they will be back bigger and better with the next gen Commonbore, and take it right up to Ford.
Personally, I am a little worried about HFV6. A damn fine engine with plenty of go fast options.
