Hmmmm scary stuff, though us Ford Owners should be a little wary as well.
My Bosses AU's (Series 1 - Smartsheild) Passenger headlamp assy caught alight a couple of days ago.
Luckily, we all carry extinguishes, and put the fire out before any serious damage occured.
It burnt the Headlight, singed the paint on the Bonnet, and the Fender, and Melted the Headlight wiring assy. (Passenger side)
We took the car back to Ford, and they said the All AUI Models were subject to a recall, that replaced the Park Lamp Bulb holder, as the connections on the Bulb Holder "Can" short each other out.
The wiring on the Park Lamps is a small guage, and didnt blow the fuse, but rather heated up to a point, where the Insulation had melted off from the Bulb holder, up to the rubber grommet on the Headlamp.
Unfortunately, the hot plastic insulation started a little fire, that soon turned in to a bit of an emergency !
Anyway, we went to a couple of wreckers, to try and source some new bits (After purchasing 2 New Headlamp Wiring Looms) and 1 wrecker has 3 Burnt out AU's - The wrecker didnt know the cause of the fire, and assumed that they were insurance jobs.
ANYWAY - My point to this story is ALL AU Owners should check their Park Bulb Holders, to see if they are the new style.
My point here is not to flame Ford, or their policy - Hell Im their biggest fan, but I would want to know this information if it applied to the EF,EL's
P.S. Ill post some pics up later on the new Park Lamps Bulb Holder, as well as the damage caused.
