W.A. Police won't buy BA Falcons because of the sequential gear box.

"Fearing possible accidents and litigation, the police have refused to buy any BA Falcons because the manual selection of the automatic gearbox differs from others in the fleet.
The Falcons sequential sports shift transmission changes up through the gears by pulling the lever backwards. That is contrary to most vehicles,one exception being the Toyota MR2.
We are very concerned that drivers may shift the wrong way.
Familiiarisation,called muscle memory,plays a big part in the ability of our officers to drive an operational vehicle"....
The article goes on to say Ford cann't see a problem and NSW and Vic police are buying BA's.
"All race cars using a sequential gear change-including V8 super cars-change up by pushing the lever forward."
Does this mean the W.A. police aren't smart enough to drive a BA. ?
Mr and Mrs Average don't have a problem with the BA box.
So, why should the police ?
VZ Commodore will also have a sequential box next year.
W.A police are looking at buying AWD Magnas

V8 Supercars have a H pattern shifter don't they? And all race cars using sequential shifters shift up by pulling back like the BA.

WA police aren't smart enough to tie their own shoelaces, let alone operate a car.

I read the article too this morning and thought it was the biggest load of BS I have seen for a while!!!!!!!!

Crap like that just makes me MAD. They will not pick a car that has an extra feature that they dont have to use!!! The VY does not have a sequential shifter and how do they drive them?? So why cant they just leave the Falcon in 'D' and drive it?? That is so pathatic! IMO they should be ridding around on push-bikes, hopeless bunch!

the shifter may get in the way of there coffee and theres no donut holder in the option list.

on a nother note

theres a new under cover landcruiser i seen down scarbough that there using handed out a lot of defect stickers down there.

So does that mean if the manual box had a different shift pattern they wouldn't drive it? Imbeciles. As if you can't just chuck it in drive and drive away.

Its bad enough they dont drive V8's, now they cant even handle a shifter they dont even need to use. Next they'll want to use Barinas and Fiesta's.

firstly the v8 supercars have a "H" pattern shifter, and also sequential shifters in race cars work exactly the same as a BA SSS, pull back to go up a gear, and push up to go down.... i dunno, but that seems logical to me, the other way seems wrong..

they have some sort of police law no manual gearbox's because must have 1 hand on the wheel 1 hand needed for police radio ....
