Watch those speed humps!!!!

Hi people,

I'll be as quick as possible,
I went and picked up the mrs from work.. Westfields Eastgardens. I go in there no probs (pass no speed humps) It was in the new section. We go to leave and the first speed hump that I come across absolutely destroyed my under belly. LOUD CRUCHING NOISES... Mind you I was not even going 5km/h because I am a VERY careful driver and noticed the size of this Mt Everest speed hump.

I get home and its making all sorts of noises... The flanges which connect the extractors to the exhausts are !@#$%% to add there is smoke billowing out from everywhere. Gearbox oil EVERYWHERE!!! So I ring Westfields and they speak to me like they don't care. "You would have to write a letter otherwise we cant do anything...... "But I can't drive it.." "well there isnt anything that we can do" and goes silent.... "Thanks for your help:...

Is there ANYTHING ELSE I can do because I can imagine how long it'll take to process this letter. OH by the way my car is legit.. I lowered it 1 1/2 inches and it sits over 100 mm and have been over MANY speed humps with no problems then THIS!

Can I get any suggestions.... I am really annoyed so I can't think really logically at the moment and I'm biting my tongue as hard as I can as to no offend anyone

Thanks any help will be appreciated

in the XW? thats a real shame
there is a speed hump near my place like that the XF exhaust scrapes on it too and its only 1 1/2 lowered too but no other damage
i wouldnt even tackle it in my XW but i already know how bad it was.

hope they come to the party

That sucks. If the management of Easties don't help then go to Westfield HQ (wherever they are...).

Dump some tranny fluid in their office to encourage them maybe?

I never realised the speed humps there were so big. I live just down the road from Eastgardens and I get through there just fine (on the rare occasion I go there).

I got NO IDEA how they got Mt Everest in there... It's on the top level where it's all new (I have never been there before). I've been there maybe 20-30 times with this suspension and had NO problems. I went over this one (cement/tar) and it destroyed it.. went over the next one (yellow plastic) and had NO problems WTF? I'll tell you now i'm NOT HAPPY JAN. After fixing EVERYTHING but the body on the XW I now have to take two steps back. I don't see why they need 2 speed humps so close to each other. The parking is so shocking that you CAN'T speed anyway there's cars parked everywhere and illegaly might I add. I might go and bang my head against something now.... btw I have a nice red gearbox oil river down my driveway. It hasn't been 3 days since I got it on the road after fixing all it's niggling problems and then this.. oh dear

Westfields HQ are in the Sydney CBD?? Or there abouts... Can't exactly remember.... but should be in the yellow/white pages...

You might wanna take photos of the damage and the speed hump that did the damage before they decide to fix it... I'd really hurry if I were you...

And once you've taken this photo, maybe get a quote on the damage thats been done... Send them the bill... And hopefully you're in business... =)

Hope it all works out for you.

Maybe you could find out if the offending speed hump is following the rules and regulations which apply to speed humps? Like height, material and things like that. You should be able to dig up something. I think rules, regulations and acts which apply to these things are readily available at councils.

It's a long shot, but if the speed hump isn't to regulation then you can definately get some sort of settlement out of the shopping centre. They would also fix the hump so it doesn't happen again.

Mate i feel for you ya, especially after getting your car back on the road really sorry to hear it happened to your car.

I go to Westfield East Gardens quite often myself, i must go there and see this dodgy speed hump they made.
What you can do is as well as write a letter of complaint, perhaps take some photos of the area and the speed humps.
If you lowered your car 1 1/2inch's and it totally destoryed your under carriage i can imagine cars like XR's and other performance cars would have problems getting through there.

sorry to hear about your car. i absolutely despise speed bumps. i agree with what sundeep says. i dont know what the regulations are, however, the councils regulate everything that gets built very closely, so i would imagine that speed bumps would also be covered.

failing that, i would measure and photograph this bump, then measure and photograph the others in the centre. i would then meet with westfield and see if they would be willing to pay up. if not, i would go to the media. a legal bun fight may be very costly...remember, these guys can afford the best lawyers (meaning the lowest sleazeballs who will use every cheap trick in the book).

i feel sorry for you, but wish you all the best.

I reckon your best bet is to go there in person, and get somebody to actually look at the damage that has been caused. See if you can group up someother people that will complain about the bump also. Maybe some people here can lodge a complaint.

Defianately bad news. And probably being a multi billion dollar company, im sure they could afford a grand or so....

But if it did go to court, it might be argued that the bumps are for standard cars, not modified in anyway whatsover. Im no lawyer or nothing, but that's just what im thinking.

Either way, good luck.
