In Issue 2 of Australian Muscle car GP says he is unsure of what the GT and GTHO mean to younger consumers, so lets help him out and post here what the GT and GTHO mean to you :s5
Fastest four door production sedans in the world. So much power they had to outlaw it.
Its a name so old now many young people won't know what it means. Obviously has heritage. However it implies big cubes and power. If you want figures lets say above 300Kw (like 350).
1/4 mile in low 13's high 12's..
The '70s Falcons are way before my time, and I am much more familiar with the '90s incarnations. There was some car (possibly a concept) called GTHO based on the EB if I remember correctly.
But like the Monaro, and old name can be reinterpreted and given new meaning to a younger generation of enthusiasts...

Well that is easy. The GT represents a time when Ford ruled the track and the road. It is a time that I remember with passion and it has been a long time since I can say that about a Ford product.
A gt is aspirational to the Ford person. It is where you want to be, and it requires no explaination. GT speaks for itself in two simple letters. GT is built on history. Legendary history that is passed from Father to son.
Im sorry Ian, but your post is invalid, I would not class you as a Younger Consumer!
However, in lieu of DK starting a serious thread for a change, I would have to agree, the Symbol of GT still brings a smile to the face of many ford fans of the earlier times!
The younger generation may not relate to the name., but they would certainly relate to Dads passion of the GT
GTHO to me means a car that will walk all over the opposition (was holden, but now includes japanese imports). It means tyre scorching performance that hasn't been let out of a dealership Since 1971 (none of this bolt-on, fiddle with boost crap, just pay your money and expect a huge grin). Falcon GT to me means Distant second to GTHO in comparison.
People who bought XFs (the best selling falcon Ever) remembered the GTHO. People who are buying VT/Xs remember VL Walkinshaws, Group As, etc.
Hopefully the AV will be the overnight hit I want it to me. AV XR6 Turbo, instant hit a la WRX STi etc...
Not a younger consumer but these were both legendary badges in their day - and they still have a mystique today that (like most legends) is better than the real thing really was.
None-the-less there is some marketing power in the brand even if it is only for us oldies who want to relive our (misspent) youth.
The GT is the driving force behind a majority of 'blue blood'. Most ford fans have wanted to own a GT, some of them want it so much it actually happens! They are the sort of cars that take your breath away when you hear the rumble of the mighty 351 V8, which is often hidden beneath the famous 'shaker' (both icons of the GT).
The GTHO was a car far ahead of its time. So far ahead of its time that it lead to the banning of such production cars. So far ahead that it took 30 years for australian production car to be built that is quicker out of the box.
The barra GT, and the rebirthing of the legendary HO represents a glimmer of hope that ford is back...back to rule the track, and the car sales!
