As the title says what have you been majorly ripped off on? For me it was a fuel pump. I'm not going to win any awards but I paid $80 for a second hand noisy MPI fuel pump. That's about the only thing I've been ripped off on.
I know SPHELL paid $90 or so for a brand new genuine Ford EA GL horn pad. It's sitting in his garage now covered in over-spray. Quality mate...
I got ripped of for my first set of lowered springs.
The guys told me that Just king superlows would be fine in the car sans a camber kit and with the standard EF shocks. I paid $340 for the springs then they charged me $80 to compress the back springs (heckled him down from $100).
When Pedders and 2 other opinions were called to check out the 'Compressed' rear king springs, it turned out that they'd taken out my King springs and insted of compressing them, they put standard EF springs back in that had been cut.......
Ripped off big time..... After pedders and 3 other places agreeing that my Kings were stolen and replaced by standard cut springs, The culprits Denied it and theres FA i can do.
Time heals old wounds though, took the car to Daz and Jase at Pedders Buleen and they looked after my problem. My car's now got a full pedders sportsryder setup and the suspension, ride, and handling has never been better. Its been an expensive excercise but i'm happy now.
hows about $1500 in parts & labour getting all bushes & balljoints replaced in the EA? combination of Midas and Pedders at different times. $600 to rebuild a ss 2.77 diff (this is about 6 months after getting the car - too stupid to think to upgrade it). $100 for a "MPI" fuel pump that was as CFI as it comes (still got this one - not worth taking it back, the wreckers were absolute pricks). $20 for the AC compressor bracket.
hmm.. these arent so much ripped off as stupid decisions :p
Anything and everything with the LPG system has been a big rip, but apart from that I'm pretty happy.. JMM DEV1 was possibly slightly overpriced, but at least it was done for me one morning, no problems, and dyno "tuned" to boot..
Ohh, $60 for moulded mudflaps which I only ended up using for 2-3 months anyway

well i was driving in tassie and my gearbox went spastic and wouldn't change gears by its self. $1500 later I had another reco-ed 3 speed put in to be told at my local mechanic in vic that he couyld have done it for $500.
Yeah I was fuming.

All they really did was replace the distributor and front bump stops!! All the other stuff was really basic, just thinking about it now pisses me off. If only I knew how to fix cars back then.... *sigh*
