What my 11 year old knows about road safety that the experts don't
I was explaining to my 11 year old son as we blasted through the rural scenery on a dry four lane divided road at the life-threatening limit of 100km/h that speed doesn't kill by itself, and that speed is only an issue when something else happens that results in an impact, and 99% of the time that something else is going to be a driver error of some sort, including doing 200km/h in suburbia, and it's your own and the other drivers' errors you've go to worry about more than speed.
He saw the point that eludes the experts, saying: "Saying speed kills on the roads is like saying speed kills if a bungee jump breaks or a parachute doesn't open."
