What my 11 year old knows about road safety that the experts don't

I was explaining to my 11 year old son as we blasted through the rural scenery on a dry four lane divided road at the life-threatening limit of 100km/h that speed doesn't kill by itself, and that speed is only an issue when something else happens that results in an impact, and 99% of the time that something else is going to be a driver error of some sort, including doing 200km/h in suburbia, and it's your own and the other drivers' errors you've go to worry about more than speed.

He saw the point that eludes the experts, saying: "Saying speed kills on the roads is like saying speed kills if a bungee jump breaks or a parachute doesn't open."

I'm still not going parachuting or bungee jumping though!

It's a risk thing.
How likely is it that something will go wrong?
What are the likely consequences if it does?

Still, well done to young eas.

Unfortunately if he goes down that path, he'll be forced to say and support all the BS about speed that the beaurocrats feed us!!
