heya, going to fill my ea's gut with some new oil&filter.. i have a slight tappet noise so i'm thinking about using castrol synthetic.. any reccomendations...

also, what do you ppl use/believe is the best for the ol'e fords?

I use valvoline XLD premium 20w/50 and have no complaints whatsoever, including price wise. I use either valvoline or Ryco filters and do an oil change every 5,000k's

I dont see the point in spending ( wasting? ) extra money or synthetics when I change oil so regularly anyway.

I get the normal few seconds worth of ticks on cold mornings but other than that I have no problems

give magnatec a try if you dont want the ticks on a cold start-up....

yer, iv'e used xld, and recently penzoil.. but the ticks have progressed with my old oil.. (round 6000k's :\) .. i've ony hear good about magnatec... (except from it causing a havoc of leaks on in vn :]) so i think i'll give it a try.. also going to fit them new belts... belt noise gets to me O_0

I use kendall i buy it from my mechy...i havent ever seen it in a shop.....he recommends it heavily and hell it doesn't cost me as much as mobile 1

ok, I use Pennzoil now, but before when the comps were low in the ole motor, 4 litres of 25w 60 grade and 1.5 litres of gear oil, 80w 90. keeps the comps up....lol only recommended for extended rooted motor life...

put in some castrol magnatec, filter.. and some new belts... she sounds sweet... tappet noise un-noticable and no belt noise :D

think i'm going to stick with magnatec in the future :)

... heh, now time to tcut and pillar touchup

Well up until a couple of months ago I was using Valvoline XLD - the engine was using about a litre of oil every 2 weeks and blowing a BIG cloud of blue smoke when fanged. I assumed it was just the age of the engine (rings etc.) and that sometime soon I'd just have to have it reconditioned or replaced - but about 2 months ago I went back to BP Corse Plus and the oil consumption has stopped + tho there's still a tiny bit of smoke when fanging real hard when the engine's still pretty cold, otherwise that has stopped too!

As a result, I'm afraid that IMO Valvoline XLD is not real crash hot.

Just a question about this ... the last oil change i did, I put in some Castrol synthetic (5W 40 I think?), and now (when the engine has been running for a while, and is pretty warm) the oil pressure gauge sits pretty darn close to the red "Low" section on the left of the dial.

Is it really bad to have such a small amount of oil pressure? Or am I just being paranoid?!

I think I might go with magnatec in future ...

Mobil Super XHP.

Mineral, but since the car has always been on mineral, you have to pretty much keep it that way... mixing mineral & synthetic can apparently play havoc with seals.

Motorcraft Filters...
