Smile what a treat!!!!

i have just had the pleasure of taking a Mk 1 Escort RS2000 for a spin. an extremely rare car in this country and this one had been modified...a bit. basically sset up for round-the-houses events, i took this thing for a rap on some quiet rural roads. it was a mates car (and he was woth me) so i didnt cane the ring off it, but what a drive!

new cars do so many things so well, and are so smooth and comfortable about it all, that driving this car, which was a lot like a go kart, was sensational. to be able to feel the road through the steering wheel, and the seat, and have something that sat like a kart and went around corners like a kart was awesome.

but above everything else, nothing, and i mean nothing, sounds like a pair of webers at 6000rpm.

i am now totally wrecked. i need my RS back...and i need two 40's on it. i wont be able to sleep now.

Would your mate be selling it anytime soon? Jeez I would love to own one of them - best Escorts ever made I reckon. What colour was it? Did it have the traditional colour coded decals? Would anyone be able to help me find one in Australia (I know there were only like 5000 odd made), but I would love to buy even a beaten up one (Who would let that happen to an RS2000 anyway) and restore it. Great cars.

Lucky, lucky bastard

Thumbs up

You gotta love those old RS Escorts.

The original RS 2000 is a VERY rare car, great to see one still getting around!

BA GT-HO...my mate has only just bought the car. it came to perth from brisbane and he has had it for about 2 days, so he isnt going to be selling soon.

edxr6wgn...i believe you are right about the numbers brought in here. it is possible someone may have imported one privately, but there still wouldnt be many. as for my rs (say that quickly ) it is in the paint shop being resprayed. it was originally yellow, someone sprayed it black, now it is going back to yellow. i have a van that has some good oily bits to transfer across. i will get a few mates over one weekend and we will do what we can. as for the 40's, thanks very much, but at this stage, i need to check what i have got and see how the whole package goes when it is complete. i am not too keen on running twin webers as they are pigs to keep tuned, and the cops in WA dont like them. could be tempted to go for one though, but not right now. thanks anyway.

RSGerry - What is a good single carb setup for a warm 2.0l pinto? I have heard so many conflicting stories! I have the standard carb on at the moment 32 DVGAS (i think!) and it is screaming for a bigger carb. Are Holleys a viable option? Twins are too much fuss for me too. Thanks

I love the sound of twin webbers on an esky, especially one on a race track... That induction roar is an awesome sound.

BA GT-HO - I have had a couple of RS's in the past, and the best pinto setup I had was with the stock weber carby that had been rejetted and had the choke flaps removed. The motor had increased compression, a big valve head, minor porting and a mild cam. I took it to a dyno workshop, and they sorted out the carby, and regraphed the dizzy. It was a sweet combo when finished. But I was also told by the same workshop that for optimal performance, I should have gone for a pair of twin 40's.

rsgerry - love to see pics of your RS when it's finished, and to hear details of the rebuild. I have a soft spot for RS escorts.

he he

I took the Mk2 escort to Wakefield Park practise day just before xmas. Got to remember the sound of twin dellortoes on a pinto screaming past 7000rpm as I get my footwork wrong, oops.

Passed two commodores, an LH and an HQ real easy. Stalked an LJ for several laps got along side him and lost the clutch, missed the gears and he drove off as I limped to the pits. Later I struggled to hold off a RX-4 but he got past. Had a lot of problems keeping the clutch in adjustment, and it was damn hot at 36 degrees ambient; but excellent fun.

don't underestimate the escort...
