What you can tell me about Ford Transits

Hey guys. My dad is in the process of replacing his old toyota hiace. He's seen the Transits on the road and he likes the shape of them.
What i would like to know is, what are your thoughts on this van and do they have any problems. He will most likely get a second hand one 2001-2004 model.

Re: What you can tell me about Ford Transits

I am a subbie for Boral Quarries and our company has a deal with Ford for all their vehicles. The asphalt crews use Transit mini busses for the guys to get around in and they are the biggest heaps of crap on the road, always in the workshop getting repaired.
If i was in the market for a one ton van you definatley cant go past a Hi ace, a bit dearer than some but soooo much better than all of them including Mercedes Sprinters and Vito's etc.

Regards
Cameron

Re: What you can tell me about Ford Transits

thanx cams.
The only reason why my dad likes the transit is because of the size and the height of the car. My dad sees this van as the more room, the more rubbish i can fill it with.
heheeh bloody wogs. They think cars are like donkeys.

Gutless. Seriously, I think a 2.0 Hiace petrol had more guts than a turbo diesel Transit.
But they are quite nice to drive for a van. Probably the most car like out of all of em.

Re: What you can tell me about Ford Transits

We have a 2001 transit,Short wheel base, low roof.
They are pretty good vans, have plenty of room, can fit two chep pallets easily.for the work we do ,it very practical.the 2.3 petrol is alright, and after 3 years..and 60,000km's its still goin stronger than ever, few warranty problems, but any car has warratny claims.
Like i said, we carry minimum a tonne a day,and sometimes over 2 tonnes, and it does the job pretty well.
The interior is pretty good for a work van, plenty of room, and not a bad stereo :D lol.
hope this helps.

I agree with Cam, they are buckets of shit. I work for a Ford dealer and yes we get HEAPS of transists coming in for warranty and other general repair jobs out of warranty. Once it's retail (not wrranty) you start to realise how blody expensive some of the parts are to replace.
