You can access the server the following way complete with pictures. Anyway, on with the tutorial.
Firstly download mirc from
www.mirc.com and install it, pretty self explanatory
After you have installed mirc, and started to run it you will be greeted with the above screen. What you want to do is add the fordforums mirc server to the listing. So click on the add button
When you have clicked the add button, you will get the screen shown above, enter Fordforums as the description, and fordforums.com as the server. Leave everything else the way it is and click add
Once you have clicked add you will be returned to the above screen where you fill out your details before you can connect. The first image shows what you put in there, the second is an example of what I entered as my details before connecting.
Autorejoin is a handy feature you may wish to enable before venturing into the irc room (and trust me, you will need it from time to time) so in the Options menu select IRC then check the box that says "auto rejoin when kicked"
After this to connect to the server select the connect category again and click the button that says "Connect to IRC server"
Once you have connected to the server the above window will popup, type in #fordforums and click the join button to connect to the fordforums IRC channel
Once you have done this something like the screen below will appear, so join in the fun & conversation.
And for some comminly used commands in mirc
[PHP]/me (action you wish to perform) will perform an action
/nick (new nickname) changes your nickname in IRC
