I have a weird problem on my stupid computer where it won't read a cd unless i reset the computer, and then if i eject the CD and put a new one in, it says its blank again. Its starting to peeve me.

Computer rage is starting to be a problem, im thinking of smashing this computer to bits :mad:

refer to this link for what I am contemplating.

I'm running a celeron 566 with 256mb memory, a DVD drive as a master to the cd rom(slave). I also run winXP

both drives do the same, ie come up blank. It even does it on brand new CD's.(not blank cdr!!)

Has it always done this?

How many hard disks do you have? If only 1 then try puttting your less used CD drive as a slave to the HD, and the more frequently used drive (probably the DVD-ROM) as a master on its own channel.

If that doesn't work, get lots of sparklers, grind the powdery stuff off them and fill your PC case with it. Set the video camera appropriately and detonate!

try reloading the VXD or DXV or what ever that CD driver is.. I forget it's name. I loaded new drivers for my USB controler and it stuffed up my CD, I just reloaded them and everything was cool--> like my avatar

Have you just recently installed xp??? What kind of mainboard do you have??? I suggest reloading the chipset drivers for your mainboard....

It started doing it a few weeks ago. I'll try what you said 3Toed and put the DVD by it self. The only reason i had it set up like that was cause i heard it would slow your hardrive down cause of the slower cd. Something similiar to the weakest link?!?!

I'll also try the new drivers and see how i go

Yes it will slow your hard drive down as cdroms generally run in ATA33 mode and your hard drives are most likely ATA66 or ATA100. The bus will always run as fast as the slowest unit...

As per your original post, try a bit of computer rage...
Keyboards can be had from as little as $20.......
Nothing a good tune up can't fix, reckon my computer must be a Holden sometimes.... the way it plays up!!!

Seriously, try the fixes the others have suggested, I'm not much of a computer guru myself...

Thanks for the replies guys. I checked the manufacturer of the drives and blow me down it was holden!!! That explains a few things...

but seriously now, i don't think its anything hardware cause the fact that it/them still works perfectly when i boot into dos/win98.

I looked for new drivers but can't find any... does anyone know where i can get some?

Depends on what kind of mainboard you have. Have you got a model number or something???
