Just curious. As most people I've spoken to consider a hoon to be a person thats young and drives erratically.
My curiousity is because I've seen drivers driving erratically (ending up in a ditch on a sealed country road while speeding). Yet weren't spring chickens.
I think labelling someone or the younger community of drivers as "hoons" is too misconstrude. They simply make mistakes. We all do.
A hoon is any irresponsible individual who places their life and other lives in danger in an inappropriate area. I don't care if you're 17 or 57, drive like an ass in a inappropriate place, you're on my bad list.

theres a big difference between making a mistake and being a dick on purpose. if mistakes are all it is then there certainly is a lot of people that make ALOT of mistakes everyday.

My idea of a "Hoon" is someone who has a complete disregard for others.
Two examples of this are:
Crazy driving - speeding in school/residential areas or driving dangerously.
Annoying noises - shitty or overly loud exhaust note and/or doof doof.
I can see why others might perceive me as a hoon given my track record, however i'm conscience of the publics safety, my safety and don't deliberately try to attract the attention of my neighbours or others by annoying them with shitty acoustics.
People who go hardout from a set of lights to the next, sometimes do you can just hear the pitishhhhh whent hey change gears, funny thing is though when you pull up next to them at the lights after that you looks at them and they think they are a bloody hero

What he said.
I may also be percieved as a hoon as I like driving the backroads and I dont like taking them slowly (damn Camry Sportivo drivers ), but i dont break the speed limit unless it is completely safe and even then only slightly.
A hoon is someone who pushes their POS car which they think is top sh&t to the limit all the time without any disregard for safety or what its doing to the poor thing. Since they own a POS, they have to constantly flog it to make them feel better for owning such a piece of crap.
I saw a VP auto tonight with full HSV body kit, ricer exhaust (WTF!!!), smashed right tail light and left wasn't working. He was on the throttle or brake, the sound was pittiful. I was going to put him into place in the 0-60 dash, but didn't want to risk getting caught, plus the trafic was a bit heavy for my liking. But on the onramp to the inner city bypass off gympie road (well, the one that its connected to just up from the RBH), when he booted the piss of it, I put the foot down in 2nd through 3rd up to the speed limit, and caught up about 30m on the first 100m or so. Ofcause once he noticed the falcon that was 50 odd meters behind just 5 seconds ago about 10m behind him now, he had to fly up to 120 odd in an 80 zone to show his masculinity (or stupidity).
