I was shopping for mags this past weekend, getting prices on ANZ FTR mags, only to be informed that all copies of wheels released by Ford and Holden are being/will be withdrawn from sale and recalled.
The salesman then produced a few articles highlighting this, and indicated that fines will be issued to anyone selling or having copied mags on their cars. Those who return the wheels to place of purchase would receive a full refund. According to the article I read, it is mainly HSV pushing it but Ford are sure to follow.
This was the first I have heard of it, but if anyone can confirm this or knows more I am happy to hear it.

I think it's a load of BS, it's not like someone who has FTE copy mags has stolen them or anything. it's no different to having an after market bodykit that looks the same as a Tickford or HSV kit.

I tend to agree, but if you copy any design without permission of its owner then your in the sh.t. They can look similar but not the same. It is a Brisbane store that is showing customers the articles, they even went as far to say that one manufacturer would be out of business within a few months as a result of it.
I have opted out and gone for ROH RT which were cheaper anyway through a different supplier.

Don't know about this particular instance, but I do know Ford US cracked down on all sorts of parts designed to fit Fords, in particular repro Mustang parts, if the manufacturer of these parts wanted to continue selling, they had to get it approved/licensed by Ford and were then entitled to use a Ford Approved sticker.
Incidentially, the same applies to toy Ford cars, if you look at the boxes, you will see a Ford approved logo on the side.
I was shown the articles at a Quickfit tyre store in Brisbane. I was at this store only a few weeks earlier and the same rep was pushing me towards the FTR mags (ANZ), this time round he canned them based on the articles. The sales guy also mentioned that one company would probably go under within a few months.
Hard enough picking a great set of mags, but if I owned copies I would be seeking clarification simply to put my mind at ease. I will ask around at a few different stores and post if I hear anything more. I will try to get copies of the articles and post them as well.
I have seen several of these au xr8 17inch series 2 copies going around on eb and other models, now the only thing that would be a question would have to be the copyright regulations, ford would have authorised the company making these rims, otherwise they could get sued I believe.
