may be in the wrong section or a silly question to others but im just wondering where the 2 letter abbreviation for cars comes from? ie XD AU BA, i also know holden do it as well as the mistubishis, just wondering where they come from and how do you know which one will be next?

its just model numbers/letters to signify the particular model, nothing more. every car manufacture has them. If fact every company that produces anything has model numbers/codes. ie nokia 3310. How else would you tell the different models

yeah but why AU, BA etc... why not just 2002, 2003?
??? that would only work if the AU or BA or whatever build date was from lets say 1/1/01 - 1/1/02 otherwise you could say 2003 model and it could be an Au or BA
