I went with my Chevy lovin' uncle to the Super Chevy Show at the Atlanta Dragway today. I could not believe how fully GM is behind the restoration hobby. Not only are there lots of vendors licensed to use GM in the names, producing new parts for almost everything, but GM itself has a line of "Restoration Parts." You can buy body parts, trim parts, etc. from your Chevy dealer for your '66 Chevy II - not just Camaros and Chevelles - but every model.

Ford has its lawyers forcing vendors like Obsolete Ford Parts to stop using Ford in its name. Unless you are restoring a Mustang, pick-up truck (mostly '50s models), and early T-Birds, you can't hardly get any reproduction parts of any kind. It is almost like GM is saying, "Here is a whole bunch of potential customers if we provide a product," while Ford is saying, "Why can't these people just buy the new products we are offering now."

other manufacturers seem to also support the restorer. in the UK, this is one of the biggest complaints Ford fans seem to have. I believe Rover, Triumph etc bits can be bought easily. however, good ol' ford dont seem interested. firstly, i think there is some money to be made. by ford standards, not a lot, but it would be a money making venture. secondly, it builds brand loyalty. thirdly, when people see niclet restored old fords driving around, it gives the impression of quality cars that were built to last, hence publicity. however, ford. like many other large companies forget about the enthusiasts and focus solely on sales today.

Hi there Terry welcome to FordForums ,yeah it is a bit strange the line that Ford takes compared to GM ,certainly makes you wonder of their reason behind their thinking.
