I've decided to buy my first item off ebay and was wondering if anyone else has bought much stuff off there before?
I'm currently competing with 1 other bidder and he seems pretty keen- he's upped the price fairly substantially... The question is, is it best to leave your bid until the last hour or so before the auction finishes? That way you could sneak in your bid right before the auction ends...and make the other bidder(s) think you aren't interested.

Depends what im bidding on, usually i figure out whats the most i'd pay for an item and put that as my first bid and if if you win you only pay as much as the highest bidder under you anyway.
I dont believe theres a real trick to it just take into consideration postage and handling costs because they differ from differnt sellers and can sometimes make the difference on how much you bid.
eBay is pretty good these days - I've bought and sold abotu a dozen things on it.
Just read all the feebback about the buyer, and do lots of research about the item you are buying price wise. Go visit shops and have a good troll thru the online stores to get a good idea of what a good price is.
If there are other similar items up for sale watch them to see how they go.
A lot of people pay too much for stuff on eBay because they think "oooh it's on eBay, it must be cheaper" - for new stuff it quite often isn't.
But I've had a good run out of the stuff I bought which has included things like an SLR Camera and a couple of lenses.
i've got a few things off ebay, my dad's on ebay all the time.
the probleis that now there are programs that do the sniper bids and stuff automatically. stil get some good stuff though :)

Sooo even though there are only 2 of us bidding... you guys are saying there could be many more who are waiting for the last few minutes like i am!??
And there are programs that can bid for you at the very last moment automatically!? Geez...
Ok, well i guess i'll wait until the last 10 minutes or so, just to be sure. If the uni network breaks down in that period i'll bang my head through a wall.
Oh yea, and the seller has sold 467 items, and he's had positive feedback from every one of them.
