Well I want to get to the snow, as we have moved from NSW to VIC, so all the snow fields are now in easy range, but my wife is worried we would 100% need snow chains to go, is that really true !!!
The car in question is a 1999 Lancer 1.6L.

Depending on the snow condition, but 9 times out of ten you would need chains. You must carry chains in the car to enter into the snow fields or you cant go in.
There a must for any car be it a 4WD or a bus, it's just too bigger risk to take!
Hell yeah I'm going! I go every year no matter what. Only to lake mountain though, I'm more into tobagganing and that sort of stuff rather than skiing. It's all great fun. I don't know whether to take the LTD or the LandCruiser, with 4WDs you're not required to carry chains. We'll see soon!
I'm with blueoval - let someone else do the driving, sleep the whole way, ski/board all day, then sleep on the way back. That's what I'll be doing anyway.

When we first started to go to the snow back in 1990 we hired a mini bus between a coupla families. That was fun but we ended up staying on the mountain and that meant we had to pay for each day the mini bus wasnt being used. Waste of $$$ if your not using the vehicle. We then went by individual car which was also enjoyable, but found that when getting there you wer stuffed from driving and you needed a rest. Bad for those having to drive back after a day or week of skiing. In the end we tryed bus'n it and found we could all have a bit of fun, relax and enjoy each others company and not have to worry about renting cars or driving them and make the most of the holiday you paid for!
And nowadays, the bus packages are that reasonable that it's not worth taking ya car and clocking up the k's.
Everybody wins in the end.
