Just wondering, what made people choose the sort of car they own/drive? If you own/drive more then one car, I guess the car which either you feel strongest about or the one you drive the most...
Ok, now that I've asked the question, here's my answer:
When I was considering my first car, I had to consider a few things. I'm not a particularly big person (see this message in the height thread), so a big car, like a Falcon, just 'felt' too big for me.
I also didn't want to get a car thats too 'common', but I also didn't want to get one that was so unusual that getting parts would be nearly impossible. Also, I kept in mind that, being my first car, there is a fairly high chance of minor accidents, so I wanted something that would be repairable if I was to back into something or something simular.
I'd already decided that I didn't want a front wheel drive, and that 4wd didn't suit me (either too big, too expensive or just not something I was interested in - so no Toyota Tercel for me...)
I also wanted something that had fairly good vision, and that would be easy to drive.
I wanted one that would be capable of running fairly economically, but also having enough power so that it wasn't completely gutless.
I also wanted a car that had some sort of history, something I could feel proud to own.
Oh, and finally, but not least importantly, I wanted a Ford, otherwise I would never have heard the end of it from all my mates.
After considering all this, I checked out a Mk II Escort in a used car lot. After sitting in the drivers seat, my mind was made up. It just 'felt' right.
So, what made you choose the car you own...

always was a ford fan, always wanted a falcon.
originally i planned to get an EB II and budgeted about $7,000 for it. things went on and started looking for cars, options changed and ended up deciding i could stretch for an EF.
i'd seen so many nice EF/EL's so i just wanted one, i'd heard a lot of good things about them and there is a lot of em on the road (must be a good thing). the fact that they're common doens't worry me, its good to stand out from the crown in a common car that looks different atleast people know what it is!
i was also on the look out for one on LPG, i was going to be doing lots of driving (40,000km's a year) so i knew it was going to cost a lot if i was using ULP all the time, found the perfect car for me with 100,000km's and on dual fuel and jumped on it.
have been happy with it ever since :D
this car basically was exactly what i was looking for.

as with 99% of ppl here i am a ford man....always wanted one...first car was a barina. it was a good car however problems at 200k meant it was time for a ford. i wanted a au v8 fairmont ghia. so looking around at dealers (around oct last year) i spotted BA's. Thought i would take a seat in it and fell in love with the whole car...the driving postion was awesome and still love it to this day...so on nov 2 2002 i placed an order for a black BA XT I6 and picked it up on dec 2 2002. so far so good...

Re: Why did you choose the car you now own?
for me it was simple...
must be at least 90 model,
light weight
FORD BUILT
one one choice was available
the mighty ea s-pac 1990 model.
this car is my 5th car it was always going to be a fast car so i wanted to have it a lightweight to it.
my other cars.. i wanted a car that is the envy most other cruises, pick up chicks and was made for cruising.
so i got a 1962 valiant s-series and put a v8 in it.
the datsun- needed a run around whilst building ford ea. datsun was 250 bucks with six months rego so i took it.
5th. the mighty xf- was cheap and stocko so i got it, thrashed it and blew it up then sold it :-)
cheers.joe.

well I wanted a ford...naturally. After looking for a car for ages I got fed up..I really wanted somehting sporty but all genuine XR's where out of my price range.
One day i came along what I thought was an XR6 but was really a fairmont ghia..so it had what i wanted..good looks and all the electric goodies.
Now I kinda regret as ive paid for atleast $4000 in repairs alone..but I still love it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, I wasn't interested in a car that was 'just a straight line screamer' - I wanted one that could go well around corners, and I wanted a fairly light car - I didn't want something that needed a heap of power to just move it's own weight.
Even though they are no longer independant (and they're not a ford), I'd love to drive (or even own) a new Lotus Elise...

My brother owned an EB XR8 acouple of years before I could get my licence and I decided that THAT was the car I wanted.
I own one, I'm in love with it and will never part with it. :)
A Ford fan, only like rear wheel drive, so pretty much gave me my direction and didnt want to spend much money so got an EA Fairmont Ghia, its really only for work and back, so I am happy :0)

I did put something here, but it vanshied, I think
I have always bought Ford's when my own money is on the line. After having to drive Camry's under company leases for several years we changed our policy to novated leases. Freedom of choice opened up a whole new ball game.
The BA was still too far away so I had to go with an AU. I thought the XR would hold its value slightly better that say a Fairmont so I went with the XR. Unfortunately I couldn't afford the XR8 so a 6 it was. Other regret was that I didn't go with the VCT.
