I've just flicked through the stats page in the back of Wheels and it makes for interesting reading. I realise the T's are never going to be lightweights given all the luxo gear they carry, but seeing as they are based on the Fairmont you'dexpect a TS to weigh around the same. Not so. The Fairmont ghia V8 weighs in at 1665kg compared to a t3 TS50 at 1730kg (manual). In fact, the TS50 weighs more than a LTD V8 (1694kg). Where is all of this weight coming from? Consider that a T2 TE50 weighes 1664kg compared to it's t3 counterpart weighs 1715-1720kg (manual/auto repectively). The only culprits I can think of are either the stroker engine or the body kit. But surely neither of these could account for a 50kg increase?
The stronger gearbox & larger brakes may add a little too but that does seem like an excessive gain maybe to make the bodykits harder to steal they make them out of lead
Well after driving the s2 TE50 and now driving the S3 TS50 you certainly can feel the weight gain, but IMO, the enhancements to the T3 outweigh any weight issues!!! Get it.. outweigh!
Interesting to note thet the S1 weighed 1664 Kg as a manual and 1694 as an auto which means there was no increase from S1 to S2 this is a bit of a mystery. Having had mine on a weighbridge and full of fuel it weighed 1706 Kg including the bi-plane spoiler (which is heavy) and the stroker kit (which isn't) and including all the other bits and pieces in and on it which probably add 15Kg or so.
Where the rest comes from I couldn't even begin to guess.
