Will the AV be Fords EH Holden?

For those old enough to remember or who know the story;

Consider the similarities;
AU - EJ
  • Original design screwed with from O/Seas (read USA) brass prior to release;
  • Much unloved by public and press;
  • Criticism of droopy tail, fussy detail at front, etc.

Then the new model;
AV - EH
  • New range of more powerful engines;
  • Squared up styling;
  • Goes on to become all time best selling model ?????

One can only hope.

Hmmmmm.... interesting theory to say the least. It all depends on what GM do with the VY, the EH wasn't exactly up against a strong competitor.

The VY interior prototypes that I saw were ummmmmm.... interesting, and the exterior , well Holdens aren't well known for any radical redesigns. So maybe their design will be seen as long in the tooth vs the new AV design. the last half of this year will be very interesting (godammit couldn't think of another word, anybody got a thesaraus?)

exciting perhaps? hehe

as for the theory, it does make you think a bit. i particularly like the part about AV becoming the all time best selling model!

I don't think it will be. Barra is up against some very strong competition in VY. I'm sure it will have success, I just don't think it will be earth shattering stuff. '05 Falcon might be the watershed..

Maybe not an EH, but you could draw paralells between the current situation and the early 80's. When the VB and the XD falcon were released, the commie was seen as a euro sophisticate while the falc was seen as a dinosaur in pretty clothes. As the models were updated, however, the public saw that holden was essentially resting on their laurels, while ford was making genuine advances in important fields. As we know, ford went on to dominate sales throughout the 80s Compare this to AV vs VY. from what I've seen the VY will essentially be a VT with different (square headlights). In the meantime the AV will be getting a new body, new engines, new suspension and new interior. The public perception could well be that ford is the more dynamic, responsive company, as it was in the 80's. The VT body, even despite its wide spread appeal, is quite conservative, and this could exacerbate holden's problems. This is of course the Ford optimists point of view, no doubt there is another way of viewing it which is favourable to the holden camp.

From what i'm thinking, AV WILL be the XF Falcon. think about it, chances are its going to be the last model for the body shape, its going to get a few design tweaks (Ok, AV will be more than that, but for simplicity's sake it's gonna be fairly much the same chassis wise).. a few more engines (XF didnt get that, but it got an updated EFI with a better head)... and it outsold the VL 2:1. Bring on the AV!
