Having just remarried, Jill (my spouse) goes to the RTA to have her name changed on her license. Armed with the original marriage certificate provided by the celebrant we confidently march to the counter and get told that she can't change her name until she has a marriage certificate.
Excuse me says Jill what is this. Ahh we can't accept that says the RTA because it is a commemorative wedding certificate. Says RTA, we need to pay 30 odd bucks to get a "standard" wedding certificate from Births Deaths and Marriages.
Talk about bureaucracy for bureaucracy sake.
So guess who is writing to the Premier, Transport Minister, local member, federal member, RTA, state ombudsman and consumer affairs (any one we have forgotten). If we draw a blank watch for us possibly on Current Affair. This is bloody ridiculous and we are takin' it all the way baby!
BTW every other federal and state government agency, bank etc etc etc have accepted our commemorative certificate, no problems.
I'm actually half tempted to get an official commemorative wedding certificate from BD&M and see if they accept that.
Sufferin sukatash.
Is there a time limit in NSW on advising changes of name, address etc?
:fmad:
