Ok, here we go with another mystery that been buggin' the crap out of me...
Why do car yards (mostly of the used variety) insist on surrounding their lots with hessian/shadecloth for a few days every few weeks so you can't a friggin' thing?
When was the last time you walked past Myer/Just Jeans/Tandy/insert shop and they had their windows all covered up? Surely if you have your stuff on display, you're going to attract more customers, or was my marketing degree all a waste of time?

Thoughts please...
To make you take notice, and watch for when they pull the covers off.
Good marketing ploy

When they take the covers down, has anything ever changed within the yard? No!
As I said, there isn't one single other retailer that covers themselves up every few weeks for no apparent reason, and I don't know why, but it sh*ts me!!
I actually have no idea what you are talking about!
Ok, have you ever driven past a car yard, and noticed that they have covered their fence with either hessian or shade cloth so you can't see in? They usually have it up for 3 or 4 days and then pull it all down again, only to repeat the process a few weeks later. I've seen it in Newcastle, Canberra and Wollongong - maybe its a regional NSW thing?
Nope, I've seen it too. It usually happens either during or just before a big 'sale'. They hope that by advertising huge discounts, and then not showing you the stock they have that you will be curious enough to go in and have a look.
I don't think it works much either. It doesn't entice anyone I know.
I could tell you right now exactly what car I will be buying the next time I walk into a car yard. Nothing is going to change my mind.

its ag imic and its dumb coz u can't see anything. Can't speak for interstate tho.
But it still sucks me in but then again i've been called a retail **** so any opportunity to buy something is a good one.
Australian fleet sales on auto alley(NSW) do it all the time.
The discounts are never better when they do it.

I always thought it was to make you go in, thinking that they might have a sale on or something
the Ford dealership did that about a month ago around their whole yard and it's a pretty big yard. you couldn't see a thing at all and you had to go in there to have a look at what they had.
they even parked all the cars facing inwards so their boots were facing the fences. a week later it went back to normal, they didnt advertise a sale on for it either.
