Can someone, yankee or otherwise explain to me what homecoming is?

Don't ask why I'm asking, long story but i got laughed at because of my so called ignorance on this subject but i reckon this bitch's explanation is whack.

quick and dirty def:

weeklong or 2 day event. Depends on the town and school.

two day event consists of.

Friday. During the day a pep rally for the school sports team...usually American Football. lasts anywhere from 1 hour to half the day.

Friday night -- football game against the schools bigest rivalry most cases.

Sat night -- School dance where they announce the voting of the king and queen of homecoming.


Weeklong

moday - thursday -- some stupid dress up as blah. like one day will be dress up in Pajamas the next will be a western day and some shit like that.

Friday -- pep rally in school same as above. Friday afternoon usually a parade if in a small town
Friday night -- football game against rivalry
Sat -- homecoming dance to celebrate win or loss. King and queen announced.

Now there are variations to all this too. Some schools pick king and queen at the football game. Some dont have a game and just have a dance. In the little backwoods hick town I was in it was...

We had a parade Friday, then the football game and during the pregame BS the homecoming queen and king were annouced with a school dance that night. This was followed by heavy drinking.

It goes the same way for colleges too. Depending on the size and type of school you will have variations.

Does it happen once a year?

Just the school's footy team playing their biggest rival? Is every school homecoming on the same day? How did the tradition occur and why is it called homecoming?

FIIK. Honestly it was started way before my dad was a thought in my Grandparents plans.

I n most cases yes. There is the rare times that it will happen for Football and another sport......if there are two big sports in the school. Most times it is only one sport and that is american football.

Not always, but it usually works out to be that for most schools. FB teams here play each other 2 times a year and it is always at the homecoming teams field.
