Australia, 3.00pm Thursday, 18th April 2002
Microsoft today announced that the Recommended Retail Price of the Xbox video game system in Australia will be reduced to A$399 (including GST), effective from Friday 26 April 2002.
And customers who have already bought Xbox consoles will be offered a gift of Xbox products valued at more than A$250 (RRP), making this move by Microsoft an offer and opportunity for customers unprecedented in Australian gaming history.
The gist of the offer is all existing Xbox owners can get 2 games from a list and an extra controller for free. Applies to Xboxes bought before April 26th.
Johnno, the price was $649 for the bare pack which included the console, 1 controller, power and AV cable.
Apparently each Xbox costs something like $1100 to make....

V8 Race Driver is coming out on PC and PS2, not X-Box. If upgrading your PC costs more than a PS2, go the PS2. If you don't care about V8 Race Driver - look att he other games available.

I was told yesterday by a mate (Electronics Boutique Manager) that V8 Race Driver would be coming out on the XBox. I still wouldnt get one though.. atleast not until the new (smaller) controller comes out.
He also said that Microsoft' future strategy is aiming towards the elimination of Nintendo and the swaying of existing PS2 owners... they apparently have the full support of Sega who will be putting all its energy into the XBox.
Microft is aware that this new pricing will cost them a great deal of $$$ but they just dont care. They want another monopoly and it will be near impossible to avoid.
