Well this might sound like a stupid thing to get "I'm Excited" (yeah yeah i'm still a kid :s5 :s5 ) about but i have to share it with ya's. Since i was a kid my long life dream is to go on a ride in an XPT.
Gotta love the Turbo Diesel engine.
Now, in a weeks time i'm doing just that and going to the mid north coast bout a 5 hour journey and with a bar onboard i'm set.
Will be getting off in Tarree as i am meeting friends there. I'll be floating around the mid north coast (port maquarie, forster) for the 4 days i'm there and spending new years there "still dunno exactly where.
Oh yeah also just wondering if there are any fordforum people up that way?
Just like a little kid i'm counting my days lol, I can't wait.

XPT is the fastest passenger train in Australia.
Taken from the country link website:
Quote:
The CountryLink XPT (Xpress Passenger Train) was first introduced to New South Wales in 1982. In 1993, brand new carriages were delivered and the existing carriages were completely refurbished with new seats, carpet and curtains. The CountryLink XPT travels from Sydney to Brisbane, Melbourne, Dubbo, Grafton and Murwillumbah.
Based on British Rail's Intercity 125, the CountryLink XPTs were built in Australia and have been adapted to Australian conditions.
On 18 September 1992 at Culcairn, north of Albury, New South Wales, the CountryLink XPT set a new speed record of 193 km/h. Its maximum operating speed is 160 km/h.

Onya, Gary! I wouldn't mind going for ride on that baby one day, either. I love going on long, high speed train trips. I remember going on the EuroStar in Italy and it was awesome. No idea how fast it was but I'd guess >160 km/h, but it was so quiet and the ride was as smooth a silk.
Have a top NYE!

It is no longer the fastest train in australia,
The tilt train in Queensland is now the fastest in Oz at average 160Kph from Brisbane to Rockhampton.
Unfortunately the XPT will probably not reach the 160Kph maximum on the north coast. The train towards Melbourne is the one to go on if you want to travel at that speed in NSW.
Probably bored alot of people by now so ill stop there so enjoy your trip XR_stryder_guy and have a good holiday.

I know how you feel XR_Strider_GuY. I had the same experience a few years back, very cool.
Then i went to europe for a holiday and got a ride on the eurostar from london to paris through the tunnel. They hit 300ks top speed and have two gas turbine engines putting out a total of 12,200kw. HOLEY CRAP! And they are not even the fastest ones.
I used to travel on the XPT every school holidays from Gunnedah to Newcastle.... to me its just another gay train that sits you next to screaming, leaking babies. :)
