We did an exhaust on one the other day, only travelled 1500km, and instead of having IRS and the dual system with the blocked off 2nd tailpipe, it was a live axle with standard Falcon 2-1/4" exhaust on it.
Even with the earlier XR6, they had a single 2-1/2" system.
Yeah with the advent of XR6HP and XR6VCT ford decided not to bother with a sports exhaust on the HP, altho it is still rated at 164kW so perhaps there was a change in the engine design to compensate (lets hope).
Yep, the XR6 HP is the "poverty pack" version of the XR series. It has live axle, and the interior is lower spec (single CD, power windows front only). The higher rating than standard six is due to intake and exhaust "mods" *ahem*.
The XR6VCT has the VCT engine (duh!), IRS and slight differences in the interior spec (6 stack CD, power windows all round).
The XR6HP is faster because the addition of VCT engine and IRS to the VCT makes it a BIG FAT BASTARD. The engine is rated higher output, but can't overpower the weight I'm afraid. I'll be stuffed if you can feel the difference in speed driving them though.
Bottom line, don't but the VCT for the engine. Buy it instead for the higher trim level and IRS. And yes, you can notice the difference IRS makes - especially on the punt.
There's nothing like thrashing your boss's car! :s6:
Yeap as well as the XR6 VCT handling alot better with IRS, the engine apparently is perceptably smoother up in the high revs and generally revs cleanly due to the Variable Timing.
XR6 VCT is rated at 172kw and 164kw for the HP. I've seen excellent gains mod wise on a HP but yet to see a VCT with mods. Come to think of it i haven't seen a VCT on a dyno yet.
If i were to buy an AU XR6 i'd definitly be after a HP (part reason after seeing Venom XR's car) as in the long run i'm abit naff at the variable cam mechanism as the km's clock up. But having said that the VCT does give a challenge to the sueprcharged commo engines.

Spot on, I have a Series 2 XR6HP and the level of interior is no different than the VCT (Ford made single CDplayer standard on both the HP and VCT for the series 2). I took the option of LSD amongst other refinements and I wouldn't own anything else (other than maybe an XR8!) To call it the poverty pack is far from true. And one other benefit of the XR series is they disable the speed limiter that the Falcon/Forte/Fairmont have on them that kicks in at 187km / hr. This is of particular benefit living in NT where there is no speed limit on the open road.
