Hi there
NZ here and I have a 1999 AU1 XR8 cobra? The cobra options include Momo wheel and knob, AU2 17" alloys (factory), Headers and big bore, lowered (Sabre?) suspension, body kit and bi wing, cobra decals above tickford badge and at rear on right hand side of boot lid, black and 5
speed.
My Question is: Is the cobra package just a New Zealand option or is it also a Oz option. Can anyone tell me more about the cobra package, like is there possibly engine mods?
Also it has blue coil springs with a "Sabre" tag, can not find anything about Sabre springs, can anyone help?
It also has a Tickford ID tag with the cobra options listed, Is this normal.
Never heard of a 'Cobra' XR8. The closest thing I've seen/heard was a bunch of AU (Fortes I think) ex-rental cars that were painted up white with blue stripes (might of had mags as well, not 100% sure on that) as a sales gimmick to try and sell them as a try hard Cobra. Sounds like your car might be some NZ dealer special?

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen. It said, 'Parking Fine.'So that was nice.
Yeah, I am unsure of why or how (Ford NZ Marketing i think. ame principal as the forte SR perhaps?) but yep, theres a few of em. Usually White or black, the odd venom one as well..
They still have the same 185kw AU 5.0 engine, so no mods there.
as far as the suspension etc - is anyone else able to enlighten us? cos i have no idea!
NZ put out the XR8 Cobra back in 98 or 99 I think, with the cobra decal on the back, it looked pretty good, double spoiler, bodykit etc, but someone at FORD didn't want it !
It wasn't a Forte, only came in XR8.
Best speak to someone at John Andrew Ford or one of the other big Ford dealers in NZ
Kiwi Falcon
Thank you, I live in Dunedin and will phone the bigger dealers in Auckland as my cars hand book is missing, so I don't know who the original deal was. Information down this way is very limited.
Like Kiwi Falcon said, it was a limited run of XR's that got this Cobra name/extra's as they got told to stop it in no uncertain terms, although I thought it was by Ford Aus.
Some dealers also did SVO ones (AU I) which also included engine mods.
