driver education isnt the answer to road safety. skills and attitude mean nothing. the ability to read prevailing conditions, knowing your cars limits and being able to adjust your driving mean squat. speed limits and a visible police presence also do nothing.
and the proof???? a letter in todays west australian.
"It is time for the police and transport ministers to stop passing thr buck and blaming the driver in speed related accidents. The Federal Government has the power to say what can be manufactured and sold in Australia. High powered vehicles should be the first priority.
To reduce the road toll, you must first get rid of the cause - high powered vehicles"
a big thank-you goes out to Frank Cherry of South Lake for his well thought out, well reasoned and obviously well researched yet very brief study into the road toll.
i could go into this and cut it to ribbons a so many different levels, but i would only be saying what you all think.
i will leave it at this;
someone wrote and believes this, a paper published this, some other d!ckhead will also believe this...probably a pollie. after all, they believe car ads are also responsible for the road toll.

It always comes down to drivers abillity to control a vehicle
I agree, you should drive a car within the cars and your own ability.

I think that the state of the roads has alot to do with it. I think a black spot is always due to poor road design,maintenance etc I mean you can't tell me that a whole bunch of people have a brain fade in the same spot I think it is the governments responsability to improve these bits of road by making them safer not by blaming it on speed & fining people the road should be able to safely accomadate a car traveling well in excess of the speed limit or what speed people regularly do there & as for high performance cars they are usually safer at a given speed then a normal car because they are designed to cope with higher speeds for example if a a corner is posted 80 & a Forte can dafely manage it at 95 & a XR can do the same corner at 120 I would still rather be in the XR even doing 80 because it leaves a bigger margin for error
A few years ago a judge in NSW condemned Holden for producing the VL Turbo Commodore calling it a danger on our roads. He was referring to a final coroner's report in which two (?) people died when they hit a telegraph pole.
Now, yes the car may have been travelling too fast, but what was the cause of their death? Yes, that's right, the roadside furniture at the gutter made of solid treated wood. Car was wrapped around it like foil.
