confused Young XR Owners and Insurance

I was wondering who you are insured with and how much they are charging you? I went to get a quote today from Suncorp and was refused insurance on a 1997 XR6, could only get 3rd party, fire etc. I also asked about a 2000 AU Futura and was quoted $1,730. I am still 17, just, on the 10th of July I turn 18, so she would have calculated those prices for a 17 yr old I guess, don't know if that will make much of a difference. I have never had insurance in my name yet. I can't put it in my parents name and my oldest brother is 22 who has had an accident and hasn't had any insurance in his name either. So I was wondering who do you young XR owners insure with?

Re: Young XR Owners and Insurance

I am 20 and bought a new XR6 Turbo and it is costing around $2000 from memory a year as a rating 5. It is a lot but I was paying $1700 for an EF Ghia so I don't mind really as for $300 more you are getting a lot more car.

Why can't you get it through your parents.... sorry shouldn't probe like that.

Shop around - someone WILL insure you. RACV, Just Cars (they should), NRMA, etc...

Really 'Just Cars' should insure you. Just expect to pay - but once you have a rating history, you can shop around.

45,000km service coming up - and i'll be asking for a sizable list of fixes:
* Gearbox (3rd time)
* Steering click (5th time)
* Brake Shudder (2nd time, and has the applied "Fix")
* etc...

Damn, that's brilliant for a New XR6 TURBO. Who is that with?

Yeh, I did a search before I posted this and found that you had your ED XR insured for 3rd party, but I wanted full cover, I dont really wanna risk a nice EL XR.

That's where the wonderful world of banks and loans comes in, I don't want to lose my pride and joy if/when I get her.

Re: Young XR Owners and Insurance

Mine's in my dads name, through RACV.. He is a rating one, and before i was listed, he was paying $70 a month for insurance. As soon as i was listed on the policy, the payments went up to $170/mo.

Apparently i'm getting a rating while i'm listed, so that's good anyway..
