No they are black with white strips just goto your local ZOO armed with a razor and start shaving one you will find black skin

scientifically, they are black with white stripes, if you look at one closely you will find that it infact has nothing to do with skin colour but infact the actual hair, If you look at the black stripes they are completely black, look at the white and you will find traces of black hairs in amongst them, therefore concluding that they are Black with white stripes. The same as if you streak your hair, you will still find strands of hair your original colour in amongst the died hair, but not the other way around.

But really as someone said we have way to much time on our hands.

Actually its unknown!
I think most scientists think they were originaly a dark color and developed the white stripes during there evoloution to blend into the Jungle and hide from predators.
Theres 4 species of Zebra one is extinct. The extinct species had a dark rear end and the front 1/2 was striped.
