I have a 92 Bronco 5.8L Automatic. I assume it's a E40D trans. The trans started slipping so I thought it was time for a rebuild. Then I shifted it down manually and everything worked with no slipping. What could be causing this? A solenoid of some sort? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike
If it slips or shudders when going into overdrive ONLY, a flush or drain and fill may fix that. If the fluid replacement does not correct the concern it could be the torque converter itself.
Again, this is for slipping when going into overdrive ONLY.
It slips from a dead stop unless you manually pull into low. Once out of first gear it shifts fine on it's on. No problems between drive and overdrive.
It may be the low/reverse band. Sounds like the tranny will have to come apart. I am not 100% percent sure. A good shop will diag it and stand behind that diag all the way through the repair and then some.
Good luck.
